csix?

charles lives in san francisco and works in marketing. he's a dragonboater and amateur marathoner. he drinks a lot of coffee, mostly because the caffeine doesn't affect him. he also reads a lot. he no longer plays video games because he fried his last three video cards. he also likes to use brackets and start sentences with lowercase letters. appositives are his favorite language tool. the more complex your vocabulary is, the more charles will like you. it also helps to be able to differentiate between There, Their and They're. his favorite colors are black and orange, mostly because they're the colors of the San Francisco Giants, and also, conveniently, the colors of his dragonboat team, Ripple Effect. speaking in the third-person isn't something he usually does, but he thought it would be interesting, at least for this gigantic paragraph.

the term "csix" was taken from his first ever aol screen name, "c6freejack," but since no one knew of the 1980s epic called "freejack," which starred such dinstinguished actors as mick jagger & emilio estevez, he decided to leave that portion behind. there is no relation to the social network of high tech professionals of the same name, which makes things confusing, but then again simplicity wasn't the objective.

…and we’re back. hope you like the new layout, it’s a work in progress, but we’ll see it through. the archives are incoming, as well as live tags/comments. hopefully the days of hand-coding are over.

a few quick observations before we begin:

  1. burgermeister is overpriced beyond belief
  2. the sound of african drums at the beach on a hot day is really relaxing
  3. pork with bubbling fat is for the win
  4. salted cod to make ‘bacalao al pil pil’ is also for the win
  5. pacific super is always an interesting place to go, but bring a jacket

so, shall we?

the last time i left off, christmas went well- the holiday and all the requisite trimmings always have something of value, and my family never disappoints. i was, however, point and scout for my family in regards to procuring early seats for church, and the boredom was manifested in my use of the facility’s free and holy wifi. praise jesus.

when we got back to the city limit [i grew up within sf but not too far from the daly city border], the hors’douvres and cheeses and tapas were laid out, devoured, and laid out again.

it also happened to be claire’s first christmas, so she made the most of it, tearing open as many presents as she could get her hands on, though afterward she’d be more proccupied with the wrapper itself instead of what was actually beneath it.

in all it was a great night, lots given, lots received- what, we have a down economy?

i waited patiently until i could give out the last and most important gift, and we celebrated tim webb’s birthday shortly afterward at ye olde bittre ende. doctor leung hadn’t left for vegas yet, either, so he stuck around for good measure.

new year’s eve, however, could’ve used some work. ning picked an incredible french restaurant on belden place, and we had a good number of people and great conversation and steak and onion rings [though i did have to lobby for a third one] and plenty of alcohol-

but shortly after 11pm they all left me to attend a giant asian party at the Regency center, leaving me to actually enjoy the rest of the meal in silence, which was made easier because, well, there was no one left to have to put up yapping with! i need to try eating in silence more often.

i ambled around and took in the financial district, had the backups fall through, so i just headed home and caught the last five minutes of 2008 on the tube.

with dick clark. who apparently only lives due to tubes jammed into god-knows-where.

08 did manage to be a good year, though. plenty of epiphanies and good food and lessons learned. drama was kept at a minimum this time, so we did the best we could.

despite the bitter end.
